Free programs you need: Irfanview and GIMP
First thing you need to do is find a video or picture that you want to create a .gif with. Once you have a video open it in Irfanview. Click option, extract all frames. Next open GIMP, click file, open as layers and select the frames you want. Click save as and change the name to anything.gif. After that another window will pop up, click the save as animation gif, then export, then save! DONE!
If you want to edit the frames just do it before saving in GIMP. I usually use photoshop to edit the individual frames. So it would go Irfanview -> Photoshop -> GIMP. Although GIMP works for that purpose too. As you can imagine editing each frame gets to be a little tedious. Some .gifs are 50+ frames.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I will also take requests!
Thanks for the info. On the average, how long does it take to create one second of animation?
ReplyDeleteWell if you are going for a straight video file to .gif with no editing it only takes like 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteNow if you want it to loop perfectly or need it to be a certain file size to post on a forum or to upload a little trial and error is necessary. This Conan one took me about 10 minutes to get just right.
Some other .gifs I have made where I edited each individual frame can take up to an hour.
Awesome post, I've always wondered how to make them. :D
ReplyDeleteMade some animated gifs before, but used some other software. Nice to know it can be done with a photoshop plugin.
ReplyDeleteCant get enough of your stuff man, ahahaha Conans a RIOT
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, that is what i've been looking for a long time.

@Burger: thanks for answering my question. :)
ReplyDeleteWatching Conan, it's easy to see he's right-handed. Notice how the left foot goes in the correct direction, just lacks form completely. The right foot points and the left foot kind of droops to it's choreographed position.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post, this could prove very useful.
